The history of the Ecuadorian team in the CONMEBOL Copa América begins in 1939, with its participation in the edition held that year in Peru. This will be the 30th presence of Ecuadorians in the oldest continental national team tournament in the world.
Ecuador hosted the tournament in three editions, 1947, 1959 and 1993, the last two being its best participations, since in both it placed fourth in the tournament.
Historical players represented the Ecuadorian team in the CONMEBOL Copa América, such as Alex Aguinaga, Alberto Spencer, Antonio Valencia and Agustín Delgado.
