Colombia and Paraguay book their tickets for the Semifinals
2023-03-16- Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay and Colombia will face each other for a place in the Final.
- The semifinals, in addition to the matches for 9th and 7th places, will take place on Saturday, March 18.
With the completion of the 2023 CONMEBOL Copa América Beach Soccer group stage in Rosario, Argentina, four teams stood out and are through to the semifinals. Brazil, Argentina, Paraguay and Colombia will now face each other for a place in the final and qualification for the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup.
Brazil, with twelve points, and Argentina, with eight, qualified for the semifinals in Group A. Uruguay was third with six points, followed by Peru with three and Ecuador in the last place with no points.
In Group B, Colombia and Paraguay finished at the top of the table with nine points. Chile was third and Bolivia fourth, both with six points. Venezuela did not earn any points and ended the group stage at the bottom of the table.
– Group A –
- Peru 1-2 Uruguay
Uruguay defeated Peru 2-1 in their final Group A match to secure third place in the standings.
Richard Catardo and Luis Quintana found the net for the Uruguayan team, while Enzon Delgado scored the only Peruvian goal in the match.
- Argentina 2-8 Brazil
Brazil defeated Argentina 8-2 in the last round to take first place in Group A, although both teams had already qualified for the semis. The «Canarinho» was the only team in the tournament to win all their group stage matches.
The Brazilian goals came courtesy of Edson Hulk (3), Mauricinho (2), Filipe, Benjinha and Jordania. For Argentina, Benaducci scored twice.
– Group B –
- Venezuela 0-4 Colombia
Colombia also clinched a spot in the semi-finals with a 4-goal victory over Venezuela in the last round of the group stage. The «Cafeteros» finished at the top of Group B with nine points.
The goals that secured Colombia’s qualification were the work of Andrés Rueda, Sebastián Hernández, Eduardo López and Wilson Córdoba.
- Paraguay 10-2 Chile
Paraguay overcame Chile 10-2 and qualified for the semifinals by finishing second place in Group B.
The «Albirrojos» goals were scored by Yoao Rolón, Jhovanny Benítez, Milciades Medina (2), Thiago Barrios, Mathías Martínez, Néstor Medina (3) and Carlos Valentín Benítez.
Andrés Albuerno scored both goals for Chile.
– Final Stage –
The 2023 CONMEBOL Copa América Beach Soccer semifinals will feature Brazil vs. Paraguay and Colombia vs. Argentina on Saturday, March 18.
Winners will have earned a place in the tournament’s Grand Final and qualification for the 2023 FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup. Those who do not advance will compete for 3rd place and the last spot in the World Cup.
On the same day, Venezuela and Ecuador will face each other for 9th position, and Peru will be playing Bolivia for 7th place overall.
