Dorival Júnior, born in São Paulo in 1962, has been involved in football as both a player and coach since 2002 in Brazil.
During his career spanning over 20 years before joining the national team, he coached several notable Brazilian football clubs, including São Paulo, Palmeiras, Santos, Flamengo, Fluminense, Vasco da Gama, Internacional, Atlético Mineiro, and Cruzeiro.
He has several titles to his name, including the Copa do Brasil with Santos in 2010 and São Paulo in 2023, the CONMEBOL Recopa with Internacional in 2011, and the CONMEBOL Libertadores with Flamengo in 2022. Throughout his career, he has had the privilege of coaching some of the biggest stars in football, such as Neymar, Arturo Vidal, Giorgian De Arrascaeta, and James Rodríguez.
In 2024, he took over from Fernando Diniz as the coach of the Verdeamarelha national football team. His first games with the team were two friendlies against European and world champion teams, which took place in March. The first match was played against England, which they won, and it was on this day that Endrick scored his first goal for the national team. The second match was a thrilling game against Spain that ended in a draw.
Brazil is in Group D with Paraguay, Colombia, and Costa Rica. They will play their first game against Costa Rica on June 24 at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California.
Dorival Júnior, the coach of the third most successful team in the CONMEBOL Copa América™ with 9 titles, will face his first major challenge in the 48th edition of the oldest national team tournament in the world. The team last won the tournament in 2019 while hosting it.
