Argentina and Colombia take the lead in the CONMEBOL Copa América Fútbol Playa 2023

  • Brazil debuted with a win; Chile lost their first game and Paraguay bounced back in great style.

The second round of the 2023 CONMEBOL Copa América Beach Soccer was played in Rosario, Argentina, with lots of excitement and goals.

Argentina added two points with a 5-4 victory against Ecuador in extra time and sits at the top of Group A with 5 points. Earlier, Brazil debuted with a 6-2 win over Uruguay. Peru had a free day in the same group.

Colombia, on the other hand, took the lead in Group B with 6 points by defeating Chile 3-2, who played their first match in the tournament. In the other meeting, Paraguay thrashed Bolivia 10-1 and added their first points.

– Group A –

  • Uruguay 2-6 Brazil

Brazil debuted in the 2023 CONMEBOL Copa América Beach Soccer with a resounding 6-2 victory over Uruguay.

The green and yellow team ended the first period 4 goals ahead on the scoreboard, scored by Benjinha, Mauricinho, Ze Lucas and Brendo.

The second period began with a Uruguayan goal by Santiago Miranda to close the gap, but Brazil regained their momentum with a goal from Edson Hulk.

In the final part of the match, Brazil extended the lead even further, thanks to Brendo and Miranda, who closed the score in 6-2.

  • Ecuador 4-5 Argentina

The home team won their second match against Ecuador, 5-4 in extra time, and added 2 more points to take the lead in Group A.

Jorge Bailón scored the opening goal for Ecuador, but Argentina quickly equalized through Lucas Medero. The Ecuadorians still managed to finish the first period in front, thanks to a goal by José Rosales.

In the second half, Argentina came back stronger and turned it around with goals by Medero, from the penalty spot, Lautaro Benaducci with an overhead kick, and a free kick from Emiliano Holmedilla.

Ecuador fought back in the last period with Bailón, who scored twice to force extra time to settle the winner. The winning goal was scored by Argentina, when a shot by Medero was deflected by Ecuador’s Nevarez into his own goal.

– Group B –

  • Colombia 3-2 Chile

Colombia secured their second win in the tournament, 3-2 against Chile, who played their first match. With the result, the Colombians are now at the top of Group B with 6 points and 2 wins.

After a goalless first period, Chile opened the scoring in the second, with a goal by Alberto Echeverria.

Colombia had to wait until the third period to turn the scoreboard around, with goals from Morales, Ossa and López. Chile got close with a goal by Papic, but it was not enough to prevent the Colombian team from claiming their second triumph.

  • Bolivia 1-10 Paraguay

Paraguay got their first 3 points in the competition after thrashing Bolivia 10-1 and moved into second place in Group B.

The ‘Pynandis’ were superior to their rivals and ended the first period with a 4-goal advantage, scored by Mathías Martínez (twice), Néstor Medina and Milciades Medina.

The second period took the same course, as Paraguay increased their lead with a goal from their goalkeeper, Carlos Ovelar, and another from Milciades Medina.

In the last period, the ‘Albirroja’ scored four more times: twice with Thiago Barrios, once with Ovelar and another one with Sixto Cantero, to close the score at 10-1. Dudy Chávez scored for Bolivia.

– Next round –

Third round matches for Group A will be Uruguay vs. Ecuador and Brazil vs. Peru, on Monday, March 13. Hosts Argentina will take a break.

In Group B, Colombia faces Bolivia, while Chile takes on Venezuela. Paraguay will be free on this round.
